Karen and Peter at Leez Priory

Leez Priory Wedding

I have known Karen for over 10 years, she always comments on my photography work so when she announced that she was getting married to Peter, I was excited that she asked me to photograph their wedding.
The icing on the cake was that they had chosen Leez Priory to get married. This is always a fantastic venue with endless amounts of photographic opportunities so I was thrilled to be working there again.

Their Big Day was fast approaching and we eventually met up to discuss the wedding plans and timings and for me to understand what style of photos they would want and put a rough plan of action for the day.
It was quite obvious at that point that they were quite relaxed and excited about the wedding and just asked me to do what I thought was best. Lovely! I feel these pre meetings are so important as it gives me such an insight to the couple’s personalities and ideas on how I am going to photograph their big day.

We all kept our fingers crossed so a snowy Leez Priory but unfortunately the temperature increased quite considerably leading up to their wedding day so it wasn’t to be so all we could hope for was a nice dry day.
Don’t get me wrong, Leez Priory is beautiful in the summer but I think this venue has a certain magic about it during the winter. Situated in the heart of Essex, Leez Priory has to be one of the most beautiful wedding venues in Essex.

When I arrived at Leez Priory on the day of the wedding, after a quick look around, I made my way up to Karen and her wedding party in their preparation rooms. I was greeted with a somewhat flustered Bride who seemed to be rushing around getting what seemed like a hundred kids ready! When Karen’s children were ready, I got some lovely shots of the children in Room 2 where I think is the best lit room at the venue.
I think this is my tenth wedding at Leez Priory now and I seem to get in some kind of routine whilst I am there as I have now got to know some of the best places at the venue to capture some amazing photos.

Karen looked amazing in her full length white fitted wedding gown that was adorned with crystals and after knowing the children were all ready to go, she started to relax and certainly look forward to her first glass of wine!

After finishing with the bridal party, I went up to meet Peter and his best man Jeff and got some sophisticated shots of them outside the grand entrance of Leez Priory. Peter was fairly relaxed and looking forward to the day’s events. The ceremony went off without a hitch although if you ask Peter, he will probably say he got a bit tongue tied and Karen will probably not let him forget it! I managed to get Karen and Peter on their own after their congregation has congratulated them on their marriage and whisked them off around the grounds for some amazing photos and this was then topped off by their children joining us with a big bag of sweets for the last few minutes.

The group shots were taken in a military type fashion as Karen organised and shouted out her groups of people she wanted to have photos with so this ran smoothly and it certainly saved me a job of shouting at everyone.

Karen and Peter really thought about the fun element to the wedding that truly captured their personalities. They decided to have a ‘Super Hero’ theme whereby all the boys from the wedding party wore brilliant Avenger type print waistcoats, bow ties and brilliant bright orange superman trainers that flashed when they walked. The venue was filled with gigantic super hero helium balloons and the guest tables were names after super heroes. The most impressive element of the theme was their fantastic wedding cake. On one side was a traditional, ornate, white decorated 4 tier wedding cake and when you turned it around, all the super heroes emblems were displayed. The sweetie cart added a lovely extra for the children too.

Once their sit down meal was over, and speeches were done, the evening guests arrived where the party was underway. The most impressive hog roast was served in amongst the courtyard area and all the guests enjoyed the rest of the evening.

It was a real honour to be there for Karen and Peter’s wedding and I cannot wait to see them both in a few weeks when I can show them both their full set of wedding images. In the meantime, here is a selection of some of my favourites from their beautiful day.
